Mumbai based Vel-Vin Company, a renowned corrugated manufacturing firm based in Greater Mumbai and led by chairman and managing director Vincent Mathias, a native of Attur in Karkala, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘India’s Fastest Growing MSME’ award by The Economic Times.

The award was presented at a grand ceremony held last Wednesday at the Le Méridien New Delhi, recognising Velvin’s remarkable growth and contribution to the manufacturing sector.

Distinguished guests present at the event included Embassy of Denmark in India first secretary Mathias Emil Bengtsson, Care Ratings Limited assistant directors Sajni Shah and Jignesh Trivedi during the ceremony, chairman and managing director Vincent Mathias and director Vernon Mathias were felicitated with a certificate of honour and an award plaque in recognition of the company’s outstanding achievements.

Vel-Vin’s journey began in 1987 with a corrugation unit – but it was never meant to remain just a small beginning.

Over the years, they became pioneers in corrugation manufacturing in India, building a strong presence with four manufacturing units across the country. Their growth and capabilities reached a point where they attracted foreign direct investment (FDI), leading to a joint venture with a Japanese company and the establishment of their fourth facility in Chennai – a milestone that firmly placed them on the global packaging map.

As this journey evolved, the second generation – sons Vernon Mathias and Vartan Mathias – joined the business, further strengthening and expanding the vision for what they could build together.

A defining moment in this journey was winning the World Corrugated Award for Best Plant in 2019 at Sino Corrugation, Shanghai. Standing there, I felt a deep sense of pride – representing India on a global stage and showcasing what Indian manufacturing is truly capable of.

Five years ago, they set out with a clear vision – to build a world-class, sustainable packaging company that could serve global markets, not just India. With that vision, they expanded and diversified into paper bag manufacturing and food packaging solutions, backed by a strong focus on world-class infrastructure and execution excellence. At the time, they could not have fully anticipated the scale at which this journey would unfold.

In a short span, they established themselves as a global player – supplying to 6 continents and exporting over 1,000 containers annually. They were recognised as an Export House by the government of India, and also honoured with the FIEO Award for Highest Foreign Exchange Earner from Goa.

And last night marked yet another proud milestone – this company, built over just five years as part of the larger Vel-Vin Group, was honoured with the Economic Times Award for India’s Fastest Growing MSME (Medium Category). What makes this recognition special is not just the award, but the pace and quality of what has been built – and the belief that has driven it.

This achievement belongs to every hand that built this company – their operators, drivers, and team across generations. It belongs to their customers who trusted an Indian manufacturer to deliver global standards. And to the family – especially Vernon and Vartan – for carrying this legacy forward with passion and new vision.

Vel-Vin is in the business of sustainable packaging, but what they truly package is trust. That trust was truly recognised at this forum.

CCCI’ s Excellence awards 2024-25 held on 27th September 2025 https://ccciindia.com/gva_event/ccci-s-excellence-awards-2024-25-held-on-27th-september-2025/ Wed, 29 Oct 2025 07:24:54 +0000 https://ccciindia.com/?post_type=gva_event&p=7295

The contribution of CCCI to the growth of the community through faith and service is truly meaningful. As disciples of Jesus Christ, our first response must be to place our trust in God. He alone is the fortress and the foundation of stability in our lives. He is the one who holds together every aspect of our life. CCCI has played a remarkable role in service. Its efforts to unite people, to motivate and encourage them, are commendable. By honoring achievers with awards, it further inspires success, said archbishop John Rodrigues of the Archdiocese of Bombay.

The Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) held its 20th Annual Achievers Awards 2024-2025 on Saturday evening at the Emerald Banquet Hall, Hotel Kohinoor Continental, Andheri East, Mumbai. Archbishop John Rodrigues was present as the chief guest, presenting awards to achievers and addressing the gathering.

The annual award function was presided over by CCCI chairman Albert W D’Souza. Distinguished guests included Prof Dr Suhas Pednekar, former vice chancellor of Mumbai University, as guest of honour, CCCI founder chairman Vincent Mathias, vice chairman adv Pius Vas (awards committee convener), and immediate past chairman John Mathew.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Pednekar said, “Transformation of the nation is possible only through education. It is indeed appropriate that platforms like this invite educationists for keynote addresses, because education is the only power that can shape a nation. Education enriched with knowledge, skills, research, and training paves the way for change. Teaching is the only profession that shapes all other professions, and CCCI’s service in encouraging professionals is noteworthy.”

In his presidential address, Albert D’Souza remarked, “While we look back on our journey, we must also focus on the future ahead. The rapidly changing technology, global complexities, and deep opportunities are shaping our times. This year, two major forces have been transforming the economic and industrial sectors globally, including India—artificial intelligence (AI) and a new wave of global talent. In this context, we must respond with resilience, collaboration, and strategic adaptability. Chambers of commerce must become the voice for fair trade and extend support to members through education and guidance.”

He further added, “CCCI’s social initiatives have laid a strong foundation for milestones in our community, and I take pride in that. The values of today’s award winners are a testimony to their service in their respective fields. As CCCI steps into its 28th year of service, it will continue to actively serve society.”
