                                                                                                25 years is a long time – to put it into perspective, most of the Contributors on this page were kids back then. Growing up, there was always a sense of wonder to understand what our parents did, especially when we used to fill forms in school that marked our Parents’ Occupation as “Business”. Gradually, we all started getting involved in the Business – from visits to Office along with our Parents, to getting our Project work done and many more activities.

While we might have missed our Parents presence during our growing years, it didn’t take us long to realize that were busy toiling away at work to build something significant for us. Today as we look back, we can’t help but be awestruck at what they have achieved. We, the 2 and 3 Generation of our Families who have established businesses definitely have big boots to fill and roles to play.

A common factor that unites all these Businesses is the vision and foresight that the previous generations showed when establishing these Enterprises and then the dedication and tireless efforts to stabilize, expand and grow operations. We aim to continue the legacy and carry it forward by retaining the best practices and policies that our families prioritized. Many of us have had the good fortune of being educated at some of the best Colleges both at home and abroad. We have also accompanied the CCCI group on its multiple Foreign trips. Both of these have taught us invaluable lessons and provided us with a global exposure, something that we wish to keep in mind while handling the Businesses.

 

From what we have observed, the previous generations had the following values:

 

• Ethics and Honesty
• Quality above all
• Timely delivery
• Customer Focus and Retention
• Personalized Service & Building Relationship

 

These are also what we need to focus on and keep as the foundation on the way forward.

 

WHAT CHANGES CAN WE MAKE?

 

We can certainly bring in the latest technology that we are familiar with, to streamline the business processes. At the same time, care should be taken to ensure that in the rush towards digitizing things, we take care not to go overboard and mindlessly implement technology just because it’s the latest, but thoughtfully choose what is needed. Let the technology blend with the human touch for optimum benefit. Our parents kept all records in hard copy, so digitizing these on the cloud will definitely be some steps we can take.

Twenty-five years ago, people had lesser resources to start a business, and money was harder to come by. Today, resources to commence a business are relatively easier to get, but then this era has its own challenges. Laws are stricter, customers have more options, employees are also more difficult to retain. We would say both eras have their
pluses and minuses when it comes to ease of doing business.

Of course, entrepreneurship is not for everyone. There are certain fundamental attributes that a successful entrepreneur needs to develop. The appetite for risk is one. Knowledge of the field you are building or carrying forward your business is another. Ideally, we believe a person should secure a few years of valuable work experience learn the ropes and then enter business so that the chances of making more effective decisions increase. Of course, our fathers and mothers in most cases put in huge amount of hours at work when they were establishing their businesses.

For every strong structure, you need to dig a lot below the ground and that is hard work. So definitely the previous generation, when they were founding the family businesses, would have found it difficult to maintain work-life balance. We are sincerely grateful to them for what they have done for us. Today, now that our businesses are mostly established, we find it easier to find time for leisure, family, hobbies and even for contribution to society.

It is our commitment as the next generation that we will put in our best efforts to carry forward the Chamber and its activities to the next level and try to leave it for our children in at least as good shape it was when we take over the baton. We hope that you all will be around and we too, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Chamber in grand style.   God Bless us all.

Electropneumatics was established in 1972 by Mr. Antony Rasquinha, Chairman & Managing Director, with a team of five persons. The desire to innovate and develop new products and technologies that would benefit the Indian industry was the founding stone on which the company was built. This underlying philosophy is the essence of all developments and the path on which the company treads.

It is now being managed by Mrs. Ingrid Rasquinha and Mr. Ashley Rasquinha

Electropneumatics started by developing and manufacturing pneumatic valves, as substitute to expensive imported ones. Michael High School is a coeducational English medium school started by Mr. Moses Michael Gomes and his wife Mrs. Jean Moses Gomes with a simple background. Mr. Moses Gomes started the kindergarten with 12 children in his family home in 1979. The school today stands tall in Kurla west and is the result of the efforts put in day and night by this couple.

The Catholic Education Society is conducting the pre- primary section known as CES’s Franciscan Nursery Kindergarten School, Primary & Secondary Section known as the CES’s Michael High School and it also conduct the Junior College known as Marceline Junior College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Girls and Science & Commerce for Boys. The school caters to all caste and creed.

Michael School is a co-education based school spread over 3 acres and it is equipped with state of the art infrastructure and technology and backed by the state and nationally recognized curriculum. The faculty comprises of excellent, professionally sound teachers who put in their heart mind and soul to not only teach but inspire their students.

The school stands tall in Kurla and has a green campus with more than thousands of plants in and around the campus. It is often described as an oasis in the concrete world. The school is a smart school; techno-savvy oriented and believes in giving hands-on experience to its students. The focus of the school has always been all-round development of its students. The school results of 2014-2015 were 100%.  At present, the school caters to 8500 students of all caste and creed.
